In the use of the projector, most people will not pay attention to the role of the projection screen in the entire use process. Many friends think that the projection screen is a dispensable product. Some are better, and if not, it is harmless. But is this really the case? Let’s explore it together today.
Is the projection screen an optional product?
To explore this issue, we first need to understand the projection screen.
It has its own resolution
Everyone knows that the projector has resolution, but never heard that the curtain also has resolution. In fact, the projection screen has resolution and its resolution plays a very important role in the process of projection.
The resolution of a projection screen refers to the size of the smallest optical structure on the screen. If it is a rear projection TV or a resin hard screen, users can observe the existence of regular geometric cylinders on the screen; however, it is not visible for ordinary white plastic screens and glass bead screens.
Only when the resolution of the curtain is significantly higher than that of the projector can the projection system display a clear picture. If the resolution of the projection screen is significantly lower than that of the projector, the best projector can only project a “mosaic” picture.
It has its own viewing angle
Another key parameter of the projection screen is the viewing angle. The concept of viewing angle can be understood as the visible edge when the attenuation of the radiated light reaches 50% of the middle area, and the angle between the left and right visible edges is the viewing angle. Beyond the angle range, the color and brightness decrease sharply, which seriously affects the viewing effect.
The viewing angle of the projection screen is determined by the geometry of the smallest optical structure of the screen. The viewing angle of the curtain is often closely related to the brightness uniformity of the picture, brightness, contrast and color effects at different viewing angles. It can be said that improving the viewing angle of the curtain is more technical than increasing the resolution of the curtain.
It can achieve brightness gain
What is gain? In simple terms, it is the ratio of the brightness of the projection screen to the naked eye and the brightness of the reflection of the white wall when the projector and the external ambient light are fixed. In theory, choosing a high-gain projection screen can bring a brighter picture, in order to achieve the purpose of overcoming the external ambient light.
The principle of curtain gain is the opposite of the viewing angle
But the actual use is not as the theory says, the principle of curtain gain is opposite to the viewing angle. High-gain screens are mostly suitable for situations where the projector’s own brightness is insufficient, and it has obvious damage to the viewing angle, color, brightness uniformity, and contrast effect.
It can achieve contrast enhancement
There are two main ways to increase the contrast of a projection screen: one is to reduce the emissivity, and the other is directional reflection. At present, high-end projection screens are designed by precise optical structures to reduce the effect of ambient light interference by processing the laws of reflection and absorption of light at different incident angles.
It can be seen that the projection screen is not a useless “vase”. Everyone needs to spend some time on the selection of the projection screen while carefully selecting the home projector. A good projection effect does not only require a good projector, the use of the curtain is very important.
